The EPNS PROJECT team was represented by @JafCR and @RJlwl who judiciously shared with us detailed knowledge and information about EPNS PROJECT.

1st Segment: INTRODUCTION

Q1: Can you please introduce yourselves and your background, also introduce the team working on EPNS?

ANS: Sure! hello AMA Lovers Community 🚀 I’m Richa, co-founder of Ethereum Push Notification Service (EPNS). I wear multiple hats at EPNS though am focused on mostly Marketing, Growth and Product. Stoked to be #BUIDLing World’s First Decentralized Notification Protocol.

Hi again everyone! Super excited to join this AMA today!

I am Jaf, Product and Development Lead at Ethereum Push Notification Service.
I love living in the intersection of Technology, Product, and Users; and having the opportunity to participate in building the World’s first protocol for Web3Notifs is a true challenge and a true pleasure. So many things are coming, it's going to be quite a ride!

Looking forward to your questions and sharing details about our project 🙂.

Q2: Can you introduce EPNS, what critical problems does it solve that existing solutions are not solving and what's the competitive advantage?

ANS: sure! - I can take this one

Ethereum Push Notification Service (epns.io) is building the first ever decentralized communication (notification) protocol that enables dApps, smart contracts and even traditional services to send notifications to wallet addresses (web3 users).

The Problem

We are trying to solve the problem of communication in blockchain/Web3 or the lack of it. Notifications have been so engraved into our lives now that we hardly realize most of our online actions are caused by them, think about it, whatsapp, facetime, emails, payments, games all inform you now. You don’t go back to them to check it out.

Apple introduced push notifications just about 11 years ago, and the rest is history.

Contrast this experience with any dApps, smart contracts or services you interact with on web3. There’s no way to inform users(wallet addresses) any time an important event occurs, instead, the user is assumed to go back to the service time and time again to check their activity. For instance, Liquidation on AAVE, Compound or any DeFi, DAO Governance proposal (Yam!), or ENS / dEx orders. Each of these are a reality right now but no solution exists to address them and the problem will only worsen as more services come to Web3.

Solution

Ethereum Push Notification Service (EPNS) in its core is a decentralized communication protocol that enables any smart contracts, dApps or even traditional services to send notifications to wallet addresses https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kwwnlmUpRsk

TL;DR: We are the first one to do this. We have been lucky to have been at the right place at the right time.

Q3: So when I get involved in a project or buy their token for longterm keeping, I can easily get update on those projects without having to search for their social media accounts?

ANS: Exactly, stay on top of all Web3 updates like new governance proposals, ENS domain expiration, ETH or BTC price updates gas fees updates, new launches etc. via EPNS 🙂.

Q4: Can you briefly describe the top milestones you have achieved and your target milestones with timelines, also share your roadmap?

ANS: EPNS Milestones so far: We have had an awesome journey! Ideation and loads of research were taken to Ethereum Foundation -> EthGlobal HackMoney 2020 where we build POC -> selected for IDEO PVD -> selected for Gitcoin Kernel fellowship and came out as top 20 projects! -> entered Gitcoin Grant round 7 (top 5 projects / 210+ contributors) which led us to raise our seed. We recently completed our successfull IDO at Polkastarter and fast working towards our roadmap.

We are lucky and grateful to be backed by top VCs / Angels in the space including Balaji Srinivasan, Binance Labs, True Ventures, iOSG, Bixin, BR Capital, TheLAO, MetaCartel VC, Sandeep Nailwal (Polygon), Scott Moore (Gitcoin), DeFiDad, Mariano Conti, Anthony Sassano, Ravindra (Frontier), Preethi Kasireddy along with 35+ equally awesome folks

Also, we just release our 2021 Roadmap, here’s a snapshot of the target milestones and a detailed article on the same.

Q5: So, can you briefly describe your PARTNERSHIPS up till this moment?

ANS: Sure! We are working with some top DeFi and Web3 protocols like Uniswap | Gitcoin | Polygon | Mask Network | PoolTogether | Alpha Homora | Biconomy | Frontier | bZx | Ceramic Network to build the core features of EPNS protocol.

You can learn more our collab through our medium blog posts: https://twitter.com/epnsproject/status/1377305643384664065

Q6: Can you give an overview of your Tokenomics, and the UTILITY of the $PUSH Token?

ANS: sure thing! ☝🏾 Sure, $PUSH is a governance token that also carries usage mining incentives and the ability to split the fee pool in the future whenever the community chooses to enable that, it’s designed to incentivize all actors in the ecosystem to participate and check each other!

Keeping this short but a much better version of what all things it does and how it ties to the ecosystem can be found here 👇🏽

2nd Segment: LIVE Questions

Q1: The service that EPNS offers is incredible for DeFi users who risk losing business opportunities if they do not use this service, but how is the push notification service applied within the system of dApps, wallets or NFTs? Can you give us details of the benefits that the projects obtain by making alliances with the platform?
https://mobile.twitter.com/Godpelpa/status/1391361253671571456

ANS: In general EPNS can tap into any dApp that needs to notify something to a user or to their entire user base. This means we are not limited to DeFi.

If you think about NFTs: you can receive notifications when your favorite artist publish new artwork, or when they publish something for auction.

Wallets is similar: you want to receive notifications alerting you of movements IN and OUT of your wallet.

its all about having the information flow to you rather than fetching for it! ✌🏾

Q2: I downloaded the EPNS app for Android, set everything up, my wallet, passcode and fingerprint. However, after getting into the app I couldn't find anywhere to subscribe to notification and start earning. Is the app yet to be fully launched or there's something I'm not doing right?
Won't mind if you can use pictorial explanation or direct to when I get a well detail process.
https://twitter.com/Cryptomachine15/status/1391355509362544640?s=19

ANS: Hey Mayor, thanks for checking us out :). So after downloading the app you need to go to https://app.epns.io/ From there you will see the list of channels we have currently available. Upon clicking subscribe on any channel, you will start getting the corresponding notifications in the Mobile App. Please make sure you are in Ropsten before subscribing.

That's a great suggestion Mayor, creating a graphics on the steps or "how to". Will share the inputs with our team.

Q3: EPNS offers several unique features. However, I'm most interested in the "Spam score and throttling" feature as observed from your litepaper. Can you talk more about how this throttling feature will work and also what its benefits are to the EPNS ecosystem? Finally, why is the network fee on the EPNS protocol charged in $DAI instead of your native token $PUSH?
https://twitter.com/kerzy_f/status/1391362899214544899?s=19

ANS: Great question! Spam can be a concern when it comes to notifications. We actually thought a ton about it and there are a couple of ways by which we mitigate the issue (everything happens on protocol ):

1) Users have to opt in to receive notifications from the service first before they can start communicating. This ensures that users are always in control, if they unsubscribe, there is no way for a service to add to them.

2) To ensure that a service doesn’t turn malicious later on, we attach a Spam Score to them as well which is adjusted by both positive (higher number of subscribers, the passage of time, etc) and negative (unusual number of notifications, a higher number of unsubscribes, etc) actions. This score when it crosses a certain threshold activates the protocol throttle mechanism which is a way to penalize services a bit at first and if they don’t stop then making the throttling go high thereby ensuring that it’s always in the best interest of services to not spam their users.

We are also planning verified badges in the future to ensure that while everyone can create a channel and everyone can opt-in, there is a distinction between spammy channels and verified ones.

We are using DAI in the protocol simply cause it's a stable coin, we might use $PUSH in future but have not looked into it just yet.

Q4: The push notification services offered by the EPNS protocol and the Ceramic Network identity system will allow more flexible user notifications for Web 3.0, could you give us details of the benefits that this strategic partnership brings to the push notifications of the EPNS protocol?
https://mobile.twitter.com/antonio50221026/status/1391362855547637762

ANS: Hi Antonio!
Managing Identity in the blockchain is complex, but the value it brings is immense.

With this partnerships we are looking to integrate new features that can allow EPNS to make use of the Identity and authentication mechanisms that Ceramic has to offer to expand our capabilities.

This will also allow us to get more fancy on how and where we send notifications, and define preferences based on a user's identity.

Q5: How will the integration of your L2 layer with the blockchain below proceed, and since smart contracts cannot interact, how will it happen?
Will you make the notifications to be on-chain or off-chain?
https://mobile.twitter.com/Ivanov_A4/status/1391353154973798402

ANS: Hi Ivan, One of the most important parts towards achieving this milestone relies on the successful implementation of our PUSH Nodes P2P network.
As we grow we will have a more robust and scalable network that will support Layer 2 solutions, and will help with our ultimate goal of becoming a blockchain agnostic decentralized middleware solution.

Q6: Judging from your name Ethereum Push Notification Service (EPNS), does this implies that your services would only be limited to ethereum blockchain? If yes, how then do you intend to solve the problem of communication in blockchain/Web3 at large if you focus on Ethereum alone or would you consider integrating with multiple blockchains in the future?
https://twitter.com/BisolaHafsat/status/1391368750482472961?s=19

ANS: Hi Abisola,
This question is a great complement to the previous one I responded.
We started in Ethereum, but its in our long term plan to become blockchain agnostic.
You can read more about this in our roadmap:
